A backup is only safe when it lives somewhere else.

With your own Proxmox Backup Server instance with us, you back up VMs, containers and hosts outside your own site. Incremental backups, deduplication and client-side encryption save space and protect your data – even from us.

Deduplication

Identical data blocks are stored only once – saving space and time.

Encryption

Client-side encrypted: only you hold the key to your backups.

Retention policies

Daily, weekly, monthly – you decide how long snapshots are kept.

What is it?

Storage for the backups of your Proxmox servers – outside your own hardware. If your server fails or something gets deleted, simply restore VMs, containers or single files.

  1. Get a datastore

You receive credentials and the fingerprint for your own datastore.

  2. Add it in Proxmox VE

Add it under “Datacenter → Storage” and schedule backup jobs – done.

  3. Back up safely & efficiently

Incremental, deduplicated and optionally client-side encrypted – we can't see your data.

Follow updates in the changelog

Who is it for?

Homelab owners

Your Proxmox at home – the backup safely off-site.

Businesses

Off-site backup following the 3-2-1 rule, with a DPA on request.

IT service providers

One central backup target for your clients' Proxmox environments.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 3-2-1 rule?

Three copies of your data, on two different media, one of them off-site. A PBS with us is exactly that off-site copy.

Can you read my backups?

Not if you use Proxmox client-side encryption – then only you hold the key.

When will PBS be available?

We are preparing the product. The launch will be announced in the changelog.

Security & data center

Data center built to Tier 3 standards. Mirrored data. Daily off-site backups.

We run our server infrastructure at SkyLink Data Center in Eygelshoven (Netherlands). According to the operator, the facility is built to Tier 3 standards and connected via redundant fiber links. Businesses can request a data processing agreement (DPA).

Location

Orders currently run via Eygelshoven

  • Built to Tier 3 standards

SkyLink Data Center in Eygelshoven (NL) – built to Tier 3 standards with a strong focus on security and redundancy.

  • Redundant uplink

Multiple independent fibre connections. If one line fails, traffic continues over the other.

  • RAID 1 mirroring

Every disk has an exact twin. A single hardware failure does not cause data loss.

  • Daily off-site backups

On top of that, we back up daily to a 40 TB backup storage in another data center.

How we protect your data – on three levels

A single safeguard is not enough. That is why we combine mirroring inside the server with a daily, geographically separate backup.

  1. 1
    Level 1

RAID 1: two disks, identical content

With RAID 1, the server writes every change to two disks at the same time, so both always hold the same data. If one disk fails, your service keeps running on the second. We replace the faulty disk and the mirror is rebuilt automatically.

  2. 2
    Level 2

Daily backup to 40 TB external storage

RAID protects against hardware failure, but not against every scenario. So we additionally back up our servers once a day to a dedicated 40 TB backup storage located in another data center.

  3. 3
    Level 3

    Geographic separation for emergencies

Should the data center itself ever run into problems, a recent copy of your data is stored at another site and can be restored from there.

DPA contracts on request

Do you process personal data of your customers or employees on our systems? Then we will sign a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR with you. Just email support [at] magichosting.de.

Data processing in the EU

Our servers are located in the Netherlands – inside the EU and fully within the scope of the GDPR.

For consumers and businesses

Community project or business application: you get the same infrastructure, the same security standards and, on request, the contractual basis for business use.
