Install from maintained packages

On Debian or Ubuntu, prefer your distribution's maintained package and follow the official phpMyAdmin setup guide for your web server.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install phpmyadmin
  • Access: Expose the interface only through HTTPS and preferably restrict it with a VPN or IP allowlist.
  • Database account: Use a dedicated account with the minimum required privileges instead of the root account.
