Install a supported MongoDB release from the official repository, verify the service and enable remote access only after authentication is in place.

Install MongoDB Community for the exact operating system

MongoDB ties its repository, signing key and package version to the distribution and release. Inspect the host first, then choose the exact Ubuntu or Debian guide and a supported MongoDB release in the official installation overview.

cat /etc/os-release
dpkg --print-architecture

Import the current key and create the repository file shown in that guide. Only then install and start the official packages:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y mongodb-org
sudo systemctl enable --now mongod
sudo systemctl status mongod

Test locally with mongosh. Enable authentication and review the production notes before allowing network access; never expose an unsecured database publicly.
